Juvederm

Juvéderm is a family of hyaluronic acid fillers, each formulated for a different job — lips, cheeks, jawline, or fine lines. Results are immediate, last 6 to 24 months depending on the product, and can be dissolved if you are unhappy. Naficy Rejuvenation Center in Bellevue, Washington has been ranked by Allergan, year after year, as the highest-volume single-location provider in Washington State, and performs more than 10,000 filler treatments annually. Fillers are $750 to $990 per syringe.

This page covers the Juvéderm range specifically. For how Juvéderm compares with Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra and Bellafill, see the facial fillers overview.

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a range of injectable gels made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule your body already produces that binds water and gives tissue its volume. Because it is a substance the body recognises, allergy is rare and the gel integrates into the tissue rather than sitting as a foreign body.

Two properties make it the most widely used filler family in the world: the result is immediate, and it is reversible — hyaluronidase dissolves it within a day or two if the result is not what you wanted.

Which Juvéderm product do I need?

The products differ in thickness and flexibility, which is what determines where each belongs. Choosing the wrong one is the most common cause of a poor filler result.

What is Vycross?

Vycross is Allergan's cross-linking technology, used in Voluma, Volux, Vollure and Volbella. It blends short and long hyaluronic acid chains, which produces a gel that is smoother, holds its shape better, and lasts longer than earlier formulations. It also causes less swelling than older products, which is part of why the Vycross range dominates cheek and jawline treatment.

Where is Juvéderm used?

  • Cheeks and midfaceVoluma, for lift and restored projection
  • Lips — Ultra XC for volume, Volbella for subtle definition
  • Nasolabial folds — Ultra Plus or Vollure
  • Marionette lines — Vollure
  • JawlineVolux
  • Chin — Voluma or Volux for projection
  • Under-eye and tear trough — Volbella, placed conservatively
  • Perioral lines — Volbella

Note what is not on this list: jowls, loose neck skin, and lines that appear only when you move. Those need a facelift and Botox respectively.

How much does Juvéderm cost?

At Naficy Rejuvenation Center, fillers are $750 to $990 per syringe, varying by product — the longer-lasting Vycross products sit at the upper end.

How many syringes? Lips usually take one. Cheeks generally need two, one per side. Jawline commonly takes two or more. You will be told what is realistic before treatment rather than during it.

How long does Juvéderm last?

Between 6 and 24 months depending on the product and the area. Voluma and Volux last longest, up to two years, because they are firmer and placed deep where there is less movement. Lip filler has the shortest life — the lips move constantly and are highly vascular, so the product breaks down faster.

Results do not stop abruptly; the gel degrades gradually and volume fades over months.

Does it hurt, and what is the recovery?

All Juvéderm products marked XC contain lidocaine, and topical numbing is used as well. Lips are the most sensitive area.

Expect swelling and possible bruising for a few days, most pronounced in the lips. Most patients are presentable the next day for cheek treatment; lips can take several days. Ice, sleep elevated, and avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. The settled result should be judged at two weeks, not before.

Can Juvéderm be dissolved?

Yes. Hyaluronidase breaks it down within a day or two. We offer dissolving, including for filler placed at other practices — whether the issue is overfilling, migration above the lip border, under-eye puffiness, or simply wanting to reset.

This reversibility is a genuine safety feature, not just a convenience: hyaluronidase is also the emergency treatment for a vascular occlusion, which is why it must be immediately on hand whenever hyaluronic acid filler is injected.

What are the risks?

Common and temporary: swelling, bruising, tenderness, and small lumps that settle or can be massaged out.

Less common: asymmetry, visible product or a bluish tinge under thin skin, migration beyond the intended area, nodules, and infection.

Rare and serious: vascular occlusion — filler entering or compressing a blood vessel, interrupting blood supply, which can cause skin loss and very rarely vision loss. It is the reason injector anatomy knowledge matters more than product choice.

Who is a good candidate?

  • Volume loss in the cheeks or midface, or folds present at rest
  • Thin lips or lips that have lost definition
  • A jawline or chin lacking definition, where surgery is not wanted
  • Someone who wants an immediate result and values the option to reverse it

Not a good candidate if your problem is descent rather than volume, if your lines only appear with movement, if you have a long upper lip that needs a lip lift rather than more filler, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Frequently asked questions about Juvéderm

How much does Juvéderm cost in Seattle?

At our practice, $750 to $990 per syringe depending on the product. Lips typically take one syringe, cheeks two.

How long does Juvéderm last?

6 to 24 months. Voluma and Volux last up to two years; lip filler is the shortest-lived.

What is the difference between Juvéderm and Restylane?

Both are hyaluronic acid and both work well. Juvéderm gels are generally smoother and softer; Restylane products are slightly more granular and hold their shape firmly, which some injectors prefer for precise structural work. Product choice within each family matters more than the brand.

Which Juvéderm is best for lips?

Ultra XC for volume, Volbella for subtle definition and fine perioral lines.

Which Juvéderm is best for cheeks?

Voluma — the firmest in the range, formulated for lift and projection in the midface.

Can Juvéderm be dissolved?

Yes, with hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. We offer this including for filler placed elsewhere.

Does Juvéderm hurt?

Minimally. XC products contain lidocaine and topical numbing is used.

How long does swelling last after Juvéderm?

It peaks at 2 to 4 days and largely resolves within a week. Judge the result at two weeks.

Is Juvéderm safe?

Hyaluronic acid has an extensive safety record and allergy is rare. The serious risk is vascular occlusion, which is rare and technique-dependent — which is why who injects matters more than what is injected.

Can I have Juvéderm while pregnant?

No.
