Zeltiq Fat Reduction
Zeltiq, a liposuction alternative, is a non-surgical way to reduce unwanted body fat using a patented cooling technique (cryolipolysis) that reduces the number of living fat cells. Unlike liposuction, the Zeltiq procedure is non-invasive, and does not require incisions or injections. No anesthesia is required for the Zeltiq procedure.
Zeltiq was inspired by the observation that children who habitually sucked on popsicles developed cheek dimples, presumably due to loss of fatty tissue from their cheeks.
Zeltiq works by controlled cooling which induces fat cells in the treatment area to die. The skin covering the treatment area is not harmed because skin cells are more cold resistant than the underlying layer of fat. The result is visible reduction of the fat layer in the treated area, which is typically seen within a couple of months.

Why does Zeltiq work?
Zeltiq uses a patented technique (cryolipolysis) for cooling the fatty layer under the skin. Fat tissue is more sensitive to cold than other tissues and exposure of fat to cold enough temperatures for long enough time can kill fat cells thus reducing the thickness of fat under the skin. The fat cells that are destroyed by Zeltiq are not replaced with new fat cells.
Is Zeltiq safe?
Zeltiq is safe because the treated region is continually monitored for level of cooling. Extensive testing has shown that only cooling only damages fat cells and other tissues at the treatment site are not affected. The dead fat cells and the released fat are swept away and discarded by the body's normal metabolic processes.
What is a Zeltiq treatment like?
Zeltiq requires no incisions, needles or anesthesia. Since cooling is a superb way to produce skin numbness, Zeltiq provides is own anesthetic by numbing the skin as it cools it. The Zeltiq device utilizes a suction cup that uses constant vacuum to suck in a fold of fat. Each fold of fat is cooled for a 60-minute cycle that cools the fat cells to a low enough temperature to cause them to die. During the treatment, you can relax, read, use a computer, or watch a movie while Zeltiq gently cools your treatment area.

When will I see treatment results?
Results after a Zeltiq treatment take a few weeks to evolve. In most patients, a noticeable and measurable result after Zeltiq is fully developed 2-4 months after treatment.
Which regions are suited for a Zeltiq procedure?
Zeltiq is ideal for isolated fatty regions of the abdomen (tummy), flank (love handles) and back roll (muffin top). The Zeltiq procedure targets folds of fat that you can 'grab' on the abdomen and flanks. Patients that already are close to their ideal body weights, but have problem areas of excess fat at the abdomen, flank or back are excellent candidates for the Zeltiq procedure.
I have loose abdominal skin, am I a Zeltiq candidate?
Cryolipolysis with Zeltiq will not tighten loose folds of skin. Regions of excess skin along the abdomen and flank are best treated with techniques that allow removal of skin, such as a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).
I have a significant amount of body fat, am I a good Zeltiq candidate?
The Zeltiq procedure is intended for patients with mild to moderate fatty deposits. For patients with more significant fatty deposits, surgical techniques such as liposuction are much more effective.
What is the recovery process for the Zeltiq procedure?
Treatments with Zeltiq take one hour per treatment area. Some patients elect to have one or two areas treated at a time. Since no sedation or anesthesia is required for the Zeltiq procedure, patients can drive themselves home on the day of the procedure. There is no 'down time' associated with the procedure. Patients can return to work immediately. No compression garment is needed after the Zeltiq procedure. Patients are able to resume their exercise routines immediately after the Zeltiq treatment.
